GWS-X Summary

The Government Web Services Exchange (GWS-Xchange) provides an infrastructure for connecting government agencies together and also provides a gateway for connecting government agencies with the private sector organizations using the web services technology. Web Services enable the agencies’ ability for more efficient data and services sharing by connecting and providing access to the different government agencies systems in real-time. By making available information or services via Web Services, the end result would be citizens making use of richer services via their preferred access point thus creating a truly customer-centric experience.

GWS-X is a technical web services platform that allows government agencies to rapidly develop, deploy, publish and consume web services for use by other government agencies and/or private sector organizations. In a nut shell, GWS-X serves the following purposes:

  1. It allows government agencies to centrally publish their web services’ information in a the central Web Services Directory that facilitates ease of searching government web services;
  2. It provides web services brokering facilities that enable other government agencies and private sector organizations to consume web services published in the GWS-X. The main role of GWS-X, as a trusted service broker for government web services, is to act as a secure intermediary to route requests from Service Consumer to the Service Provider’s web service. Web services that are published through GWS-X can be consumed by e-services or applications within the public sector) or consumed by e-services or applications from the private sector.
